Abstract
Knee osteoarthritis
(KOA) is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders worldwide and a
leading cause of pain, disability, and reduced quality of life among older
adults. Contemporary management strategies emphasize non-pharmacological
interventions, particularly physiotherapy and lifestyle modifications.
Recently, growing evidence has highlighted the role of therapeutic nutrition in
modulating inflammation, optimizing body composition, and supporting joint
health. While physiotherapy remains the cornerstone of conservative KOA
management through exercise, manual therapy, and functional rehabilitation,
nutritional interventions may enhance treatment outcomes by addressing systemic
factors contributing to disease progression. This review examines current
evidence regarding the integration of therapeutic nutrition with physiotherapy
in KOA management. The mechanisms, clinical effectiveness, and potential
synergistic effects of combined interventions are discussed. Future research
directions and practical implications for multidisciplinary care are also
explored.
