Abstract
Adult and non-formal education play a critical role in lifelong learning, providing opportunities for personal development, social inclusion, and economic advancement beyond traditional schooling. This study explores the definitions, significance, and scope of adult and non-formal education in contemporary society. The purpose of the research is to clarify conceptual distinctions, highlight the importance of these educational forms, and identify their broad applications across different demographics and settings. A qualitative approach was employed, involving literature review and analysis of existing educational frameworks and case studies globally. Findings reveal that adult and non-formal education address gaps left by formal education systems by offering flexible, accessible, and contextually relevant learning opportunities. These programs foster skills development, enhance employability, promote civic participation, and contribute to social equity. The study concludes that recognising and expanding adult and non-formal education is essential for empowering individuals, supporting sustainable development goals, and adapting to the evolving demands of the modern world. Recommendations include policy support, increased funding, and integration with formal education systems to maximise impact.
